Cultural and historical curiosities

“In 1826, Carl Seidler realizes the undisputable fact: beans, especially black beans, is the national and favorite dish of the Brazilian population; it is present in the most distinguished tables, accompanied by a piece of sun-dried red meat and plenty of bacon. There is no meal without beans, only beans kill hunger. Beans are nutritious and healthy, but the European sense of taste takes a while to savor them, since their taste is harsh, unpleasant.” (p. 444)
